Sheryl Cohen Strategic Partner ACG Advocacy

Sheryl Cohen

Ms. Cohen joined ACG Advocacy after nearly two decades of both official work in the United States Senate and political campaign management.  Her diverse background brings clients deep expertise in policy and strategic planning gleaned through the uncommon prism of her additional work in politics and communications.

Because of her background she is often sought out to manage large coalitions and campaigns.  Her clients value her leadership not only in meeting their goals, but in her ability to “look around the corner” and help them identify and plan for both potential opportunities and challenges in federal policy or regulation that might impact them.  Ms. Cohen currently serves as the Executive Director of the Affordable Housing Developers Council, as well as the Senior Advisor to the Committee for Education Funding, in addition to her other client work in the areas of housing, financial services, appropriations, municipal government and non-profits.

Prior to joining ACG, Ms. Cohen served as Chief of Staff to United States Senator Christopher J. Dodd (D-CT). During her tenure as Chief of Staff, her responsibilities included managing the Senator’s Chairmanship of the Senate Banking Committee, with its broad jurisdiction over financial institutions and housing, as well as his leadership of the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, overseeing  education, health, and other important issues before the Senate.  She managed a staff of over seventy-five and was responsible for the development and strategic execution of all policy, communications and management.

Before serving as Chief of Staff, she was the political liaison to Senator Dodd during his tenure as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (1995-1996) and President Clinton’s 1996 reelection. Prior to this work, Ms. Cohen also served on the staff of U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, where she worked on policy issues impacting women, children and families.

Ms. Cohen is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and attended the Georgetown University Graduate School of Foreign Service.  She resides in northern Virginia with her family.
